Recently, the MYOspace bloggers got together to watch and discuss Eminem’s new video for Love The Way You Lie. We also checked out one of the many articles recently written about the song and video as it has sparked quite an open conversation about some of the realities of dating violence and domestic abuse (Eminem and Kim’s Rocky Past Inspired ‘Love The Way You Lie’ Video). Here’s a few of the reactions the MYOspace bloggers had to the video, coverage and conversation around Love The Way You Lie.
“Love The Way You Lie is a very graphic, very honest video about the ups and downs of an abusive relationship. This video is blatant about abuse. In many songs that mention dating abuse (Red Jumpsuit Apparatus’s Facedown for example), the video for the song is less graphic about portraying the actual violence sung about.”
“How has it come about that someone can love their partner and abuse them or have someone get abused and have them call that love?”
“Physical and verbal violence is not the way you show a person that you care about them.”
“Violence and abuse in relationships can come from both people and can have many different faces, which many people often forget.”
“Fear is never a reason to stay in a relationship.”
“A healthy relationship is not based solely on sex, and it is not violent. There is respect. This video reminds us of the dangers of the opposite side of that spectrum, and shows us some of the many realistic consequences of getting involved, and staying involved, in an unhealthy relationship.”
