There’s something for everyone in Valentine’s Day, and that’s why its filled with Rated R hearts. Throughout the movie, we get to focus on all kinds of relationships in real-life situations: teenage couples dealing with the pressures of young love; a gay couple dealing with the pressures of being open in public and with each other; A couple married for years having to overcome mistakes from the past; And friends that awkwardly attempt to take their relationships to the next level. Even better, many of the characters in the movie perform simple acts of kindness that go far beyond the standard chocolates and roses of Valentine’s Day.
While it is a little questionable that the relationship between Taylor and Taylor’s characters is primarily based on a physical attraction and without much flaw, the rest of the relationships give us the message that all relationships have challenges that can be overcome with honest and open communication.
