Our Relationship with Bridgeport

Often times, when we think of relationships, we think of the relationships we have one person to another person.  This is fine, but I recently started thinking about a relationship that many of us often neglect.  This relationship is the relationship we have with our community.  So, take a second and think about your relationship with your community. Do you know what’s going on in your community? How about the issues in your community?  What do you do in your community?

For me, when I answered these questions, I soon realized that a group that I am already a part of directly helps students learn about opportunities and issues in their communities.  This organization is BuildOn.  I have only been a part of the BuildOn group for about a year, but it has already allowed me to understand the issues and opportunities in Bridgeport.  Also, my work with MYO as a blogger and leader has made me even more aware of how to make Bridgeport a better place.  But recently, while I was talking to some of my friends, I realized that there are still too many teens that do not know the issues in Bridgeport, or if they do, they do not know how to help the community; they do not know how to make this relationship better.

So, how do you make the relationship better?  Well, obviously I would say join BuildOn and MYO.  They are both awesome groups doing great stuff in the Bridgeport community.  But if you want to get involved in Bridgeport, figure out what you are interested in.  Then, look to see how the things you are passionate about could help build a better Bridgeport.   After all, we live in this community, shouldn’t we want to improve it?  I say yes, and I would love to know what you think and how you are involved in Bridgeport.
